Help for the club

Alright, I am ready to start building a simple website to promote the club to others in the community. Is there any of us out there that have experience doing this type of work? This will make it easier to pass out flyers to the LFS or to hang up at various places for people to get involved with our group.

I am a web application developer. :) I'm not great on the actual graphics portions of web design, but the technical side should be easy.

Phil I would be willing to help but I am not much of a tech person....any other help I am willing to get involved.

Gondore, when it come to the web design and graphics I have scources outside of the club at work that can help me with that I think. I am not looking for anything to fancy, but I am looking to be able to do a small web page to:
1. Explain what the club wants to do for the hobby
2. Explain what the club wants to do for teh hobbist
3. A place to post upcoming meetings and eventual frag swaps
4. A small area for either a blog page or a forum
5. Some one to help me get it all going in the right direction

What ever you can help me with on this I would be very grateful. I have been looking at doing one through godaddy.com but I don't know if this is the right path to go or not.

I have a logo I think, so as long as we can put that on a page somehow that would be key. The rest is not that big of a deal. And maybe as the club gets bigger, we can find people within that will be able to help us tweak it out a little.

Lorna, first of all thanks for the cheato and the rubble. It is working awesome. Lots of life. Second, i have some other things that I was thinking that you might be able to help me with. They are some smaller tasks that shouldn't take much time, but yu might know how to do it better than I.

Phil,

The functionality that you want is pretty basic. I think we could get something together in a short period of time (week or two).

For hosting I would suggest Host Excellence (http://www.hostexcellence.com/index.php/v2/pages.dspmain). GoDaddy (www.godaddy.com) is a good option also but doesn't include as many features.

If you want to have a forum on the website I would suggest using phpBB. You can download it here (http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/olympus.php?sid=c2c0d6330d70018dca0aa964627cd76e).

If you give me access to your hosting service after you have the account created I can start working on some of this stuff for you if you want.

I like that a lot. I am all game for that. I am going to use the one you suggested, I just need to pay for it and set it up yet.

Alright, cool! Just let me know when you get it setup.

The other thing we are going to need is someone who is good at taking reef pics. If we can't find anyone from this forum I know someone I may be able to recruite. His photos actually got published in an aquarium book.

Yeah, I was definitely thinking pictures of local tanks, but I just haven't seen any professional ones yet. I guess that is what I meant when I posted above.

Phil, glad to hear the cheato is okay and the rubble rock....maybe some day I can get a piece of rubble back with a zoa on it or something.... :) I would be happy the help out however I can once I get back from vacation.......around mid july. Just let me know what you need help with.

Gondore, I love the looks of that Tampa Bay reef club site.....very professional looking. I have some pics that I would be happy to share maybe we could set up a link somewhere to our pics on say Photobucket or something and you guys can take a look at some.....

Hi.... disappeared for a while.. sorry. Started a new job working 6-7 days a week and moved three times in the last two months... Been slightly (ha) hectic. Where I am working is shutting down for two weeks spaced out by a week (next week off, next on, next off) and I would love to help out with the pictures if I would be able to. One picture of mine (though of freshwater) got pretty high scores in a online webforum like this that has a contest.

Here is that picture - not sure if photobucket retained the quality on the upload.

That was just with a 4 year old 4MP camera, wish I had a new one to see what I could do with it. (BTW, the adult fish in the picture is only one inch long)

uuuum... all my salt water photo's are a bit old... and I have improved a lot since then, hmmm. I'd be glad to take some shots of some local reefs/corals for the site though.

Hmm, I have a few of my older reef pics online still... here are a couple.

let me know what you think, nothing quite spectacular, been working on focuses and depth so that should be better if I were to do some new pics.

haven't had a salt tank for a couple years now though so no recent pics of corals or anything....

Oh, I also have photoshop ES3 extended... though I don't know all the tricks to it yet, no time to mess with it much, but I know I could do some maybe decent web graphics with it.
