Could also do a google search for kansas city reef clubs. Usually easy to find a local group with a forum.
For a larger city it seems pretty limited in my opinion. I'm in Independence but I go to Fishtopia in KC and Aquariums Wholesale in Olathe. Pretty pricey at Picasso Exotic Aquatics but also fun to visit. It's in Leawood, KS.
What are you looking to buy? Each store is good and bad at something. I don't want to be too specific. None are worse though. Chances are you will be happy at any one of them.
Since you are coming from the south, Paradise Aquatics may be the nearest on the route. They have great fish most of the time and the price are fair. Quality of livestock is good. I never had any sick fish from them.
