HELP.......Hole in PVC plumming

So I didnt understand the guy at the store who was helping me w/ plumbing on my new 60gal. I was drilling a hole in the return pipe to prevent a back syphin......needless to say I then had a mini guizer coming from the top of my tank..........MY STUPID MOVE. So I now know where to drill to prevent this issue...........question is will silicone be eough to plug the holes I drilled prior??? I plan on letting it settle for 48 hrs. Any ideas on how I could make the seal even better? I just dont want to have to re do all my plumbing on the return..........PLEASE HELP!

If the hole is 1/4 inch or less I would think that silicon would seal it just fine. Probably even better would be an epoxy, such as the grey or pink epoxies they sell for attaching LR pieces together.

i did a similar thing. I just put a big gob of pvc glue over the hole and let it set a while. It has been working for 6 months now.

Since it is the return pipe and there is no pressure, the silicone should work. You can also cut out that area where you drilled the hole(if possible) and replace that section with a PVC coupler. This is alittle more work and IMO more a peace of mind in case the silicone fails in the future.

PVC coupler is best, but you wouldn't even need to cut out the piece with the hole. Just cut a chunk of the coupler off and pvc cement it over the hole. It will fit the curve of the pvc perfectly.
