Help ID black spot please

This is a new fish we added on Sunday. Tonight when we got home we noticed this black spot on one side. He is acting normal, active and picking at rocks. No changes from when he put him in.

No, we didn't QT but will be getting a tank and won't not QT again.

Any help on what it is and how to treat would be helpful.

I have no idea what is wrong with your fish. In my experience when the spot is that large either the fish is highly stressed (check water quality) or its an internal parasite. I had a damsel with an internal parasite that burst through the side of the fish but the spot was white and he died the day after i noticed it. If he's eating fine and the water parameters are ok then there is little you can do.

If it is internal then maybe trying antibiotic foods or something might work but I heard the fish dont like them.

I know its useless but at least my post will put yours back on top of the list.

Never seen that before. If it is the result of an internal parasite/worm, you could treat with PraziPro which is reef safe. But I have no idea what that spot could be from.

Just thought of something... I see you have a Maroon Clown. Does she have an anemone? If so, could the Cherub have rubbed up against it? Or for that matter could the clown have attacked the Cherub? Mine is a real ***** attacks my hand and everything.

Thanks, the maroon doesn't have an anemone yet and the two surprisingly seems to be ok with each other no fighting that I've seen...

Take it you had a good look at the Cherub in the shop and the mark wasnt there then? Have seen one or two fish with black pigmentation where it shouldnt be before. If thats not the case I would bet on the fish having been stung by another tankmate.

Think twice before you buy her an anemone. I got mine a GBTA and she's turned into a real terror, fiercely defending it from anything that goes near it. She's also started digging underneath it, throwing sand everywhere.

with or without anemone....

kinda funny, our maroone spits sand and digs as it is now with no anemone and she even goes after her reflection yet yet no witnessed agression toward the drawf???
