Please help me identify this star if you can. I discovered him just a few minutes ago and not sure what he is or if he's dangerous.

some type of brittle star. I haven't heard of any non-reef safe brittle stars, but I've been wrong before. My vote is reef safe, and a good detrivore!

ok thats weird cause I haven't introduced any new rock since my tank was cooked *96 degrees when hvac malfunction at christmas* The brittle star I had in there got cooked I believe. So were did he come from and why didn't he get cooked?

Anyway i'm happy he's safe I love stars.

Possibly he was deep inside the rock where the temperature would have been less affected by the malfunction. These ophiuroids with the longer arms seem to be detritus feeders and completely safe. They tend to live under rocks, just under the surface of soft sediments, or in crevices.
