Help identifying Emerald Crab's new favorite food!

Hello everyone! I just added two emerald crabs to my system, and one of them completely went to town on these cottony looking tubular things on one of the live rocks! (see included photo) Can someone please identity what these things were that this crab just ate up like cotton candy?!!! Thanks in advance!

Sponges. Never heard of emeralds specically eating sponges but they do love algae and on most of my sponges if they grow in any light at all algea grows on top of them and eventually smtohers them out, so it could be the crab was eating the algea flavoring on top of it and ate it along with it.
