Hello,
I need some help identifying some things in my tank.
My tank is a 55 gallon, no sump, FOWLR, been up running for a year and half now (3 years in total, I took tore it down once to clean everything).
Hang On Bank protein skimmer, I used to run a hang on back refugium for Chaeto.
Livestock: Flame Angel, pair of Clownfish and a Banggai Cardinafish.
Fish are happy, but it seems to be harder and harder to keep the tank clean.
I do not want to tear the tank down to clean everything again. But I will if I need to.
I am planning on adding easy corals soon, I just bought a new light fixture. I will also add a sump. If there's no concern with my live rocks (if I don't need to throw them out or bleach them), I plan on just throwing them into the new sump and buying new dead rock for the display.
I do 10-20% water changes weekly, I just did a 40% change just now in attempt to bring nitrates down. I'm somewhere between 5-10ppm, and of course 0 ammonia and nitrite. I don't test for anything else.
I do know there are too much nutrients in my system and I think that is due to overfeeding. I'm not the only one that feeds the fish and I've advised my family members to not feed them anymore, since sometimes I feed it without knowing whether they did already or not. Since the cutback on overfeeding, I am seeing less bristleworms and tiny stars.
Please advise!
Below are the pictures that I need help identifying.
Pic 1: There are some weird brown, hairy things growing on one of my live rocks.
Pic 2: These things started to sprout since about 6 months ago? They're getting bigger now and almost look like anemones. Googling, closest thing I can find related is Pseudocorynactis caribbeorum (Corallimorph)?
