Help in choosing a sand sifter

So some say get a sand sifting star fish while others say it will starve to death. Others say get a diamond head gobie or some kind. My question is do gobies sift the sand and move around the whole tank busy cleaning or do they find one spot and dig tunnels. I also hear some make a mess constantly throwing sand around causing a sand storm. My other concern is that ihaveslot if sand sleeping wrasses would either one of the sand sifters bother the wrasses or eat them while they are sleeping. The sand sifting star fish is easy to take out but if I put the wrong gobie in there it can be a pita to get out. Any thoughts welcome. I already have nasaurius snails cerith and turbos.

I added a dragon goby to my 150 he makes some mess but its minimal. I have no coral in the sand bed except some brancing hammers and they are 3 inches up on thier stalk. The little fella does a good job keeping the bed cleaned and doesnt hover to far off the bed when sifting.

I'm sexy as hell...

Ya ya ya your tank needs to be part of GQ magazine...we get it...then get a starfish since its your only option since gobies aren't pretty enough for you

I have a yellow diamond goby that is very well behaved. He built himself one tunnel and doesn't ever lift sand above the bottom. Have had no problem with him covering up the brains and zoos that I have on the sand. Keeps sand pristine. And he's super cute!

I meant the sea cucumber is ugly not the goby. I'm just concerned about having a sand storm and also have him chew up my wrasse while they are sleeping burrowed in the sand. I'm thinking of like an orange diamond headed goby but might start with a sand sifting star first. And yes gotta keep the tank GQ it is in the end a reflection of the owner lmao

Im happy with my sand sifting star and gobies are cool but if any any corals are on the bottom say goodbye my daimond and my goldhead love to bury my coral and block of theyre caves with frags at night

I don't have many or any for too long on my sand bed as corals go. I do have a hammer coral that's practically touching the sand even though its on the rock work that just grew out. Will that be irritated or will it live

When I first did my setup I used the OOLite sand I think its called and I put a yellow goby and Tiger Pistol and holy crap did they make a dust storm every day.
I have sense replaced the sand with something that has larger grains
So if you have the fine sand the goby will make a mess

I'm just concerned it would irritate my hammer being close to the sand bed

I have kept black cucumbers, conchs, sand sifting stars and diamond gobies... The diamond gobies always went nuts and did an incredible job with the sand... And they would move it all around and lots off it daily... The largest sandbed I've kept with one was a 48 x 24" footprint with a moderate amount of rock on the sand surface... Conchs do a great job I've observed and heard, but I always loved the gobies for the overall turnover of sand and how much work they did daily... They will however cloud the tank a bit for a while until they have cleaned up the sand of all dust and detritus... If you have a really fine sandbed, this might be something to consider... Where a conch or cucumber would be a better choice probably... Myself, I prefer reef aragonite sand, which I always thought worked well with diamond gobies...

Sorry if I missed any points of discussion, but I only read the first post before I responded...

I think I'll try the sand sifting star first but my real question is still unanswered will the goby kill or disturb my wrasses while they sleep with his digging

Gobies will not kill other fish...the one I had was very skiddish...they will also sleep too during lights out like most fish and will return to their burrows

I never had any issues with any aggression... Jus a bit territorial with their burrow, but all fish have a "spot" once established as we know... I really love these fish, great little dudes, lol...

I have two stars in my 180 I see them once a day othere wise they are munching away I think they eat pods and othere things in your sand also just make sure you get one with all its limbs and I was told on s not to take them out of water so becareful not sure how true it is but ever sence I been very careful
