I have been doing saltwater a long time and have seen many bouts of Ich, most commonly in Tangs. At present I have a clown, anthias (2 in tank, only one symptomatic--yes, the sub-dom one), and a Chocolate Tang battling what looks like Ich--BUT it goes away, almost completely once a day, only to come back in varying degrees of severity. These 3 fish have been doing the best and are all eating (thoroughly soaked garlic foods) very well. 2 Anthias and 1 clown have already passed on, although I was able to net those. They all died in QT.
I have never seen Ich act like this. Usually, IME, a fish starts scratching, then a few white spots appear and it either gets worse or better from there, a little each day. But these fish are nearly cleared up and then the withe spots appear again.
I can't catch them--too much live rock. However, I am setting up 2-3 QT's to accommodate all my fish (I can't do 1 big QT, has to be a few 20-25's), as I am moving into a bigger tank soon anyway, which I will allow to go fallow for 6+ weeks.
But what is this, have any of you seen Ich act like this?
