Help: Magician Paly's Poof!

I purchased this frag online 10/16/13. It was 4 polyps when I received it. I added it to my tank and everything went well. This is a picture of the frag on 1/22/14:

Around the first week of February the frag closed up. I assumed a hermit crab or fish had irritated it and thought nothing of it. The next day it didn't open, and the next day it didn't open. But then my LED lights went out and I had bigger issues. The tank then sat with plain old lights (we're talking T8 bulbs) sitting on top of the screens of the tank for over 6 weeks. Amazingly most of my corals did great under the lighting.

I have my new LED lights up. I expected this frag to have melted or to have opened back up by now. I have tried not moving it, moving it into less light, into more light, into less flow, into more flow. I have tried dipping it in Revive.

This is what the frag looks like now:

The picture isn't very good but only a small portion (pin head) of the polyp is opening.

My parameters are:
78.9°
pH: 8.27
Alk: 9 (API kit)
Calcium: 480 (API kit)
Nitrates/Nitrites/Ammonia: 0
Salinity: 1.025

I dose weekly:
Fluval Sea Iodine
Kent Strontium & Molybdenum
Acro Power

When my LEDs were not working I did not dose anything and there was no change in the frag so I'm pretty sure additives are not the issue.

Any thoughts on what I might do to get this guy to start opening back up?

LEDs put out a lot of light...so first guess would be too much light too fast. If you don't test for Iodine... overdose of iodine would be second guess.

Thanks for replying zoafarm. We just did an iodine test and got a 0 result.

The palys did well under the original LEDs for over 3 months before closing up. They closed up under the LEDs and then stayed closed under the T8 bulbs which put out less light.

These are the only zoa/palys that are acting this way.

I have a love hate relationship because of what happened to you.. Zoas just melt look great one day start to close another and few days later gone.. All other zoas look great no changes in lightning or water chemistry .. No nudis zoa pox nothing eating them..All my friends have had the same issue.

I have had the same thing. A line of them look fine one day, and then some never open again and kind of shrink away to nothing but everything else and other zoas look fine.

I don't think a dip in Revive would hurt if you are having issues reefish123. I've thought about trying another dip myself.

I think I've read about a freshwater dip on here as well but have been reluctant to try it. It might be my next plan of action. At least I know I'm not alone =)

Do a chemiclean dip. I did one to some nice high end zoas and next day I saw a huge difference and on the 2nd day they were wide open.
If they have a brown film on them I would def do a chemiclean dip

Lack of nutrients. Could have a bacterial infection also.
I would dip in lugol's and leave it alone.
3 - 5 drops of Lugol's solution for 8 - 10oz of tank water for 3 minutes max.
Make sure the tank is stable and water parameters are in good shape.
Trying to feed the polyps won't help much 'cause it's in a bad shape now.
Try add some aminos in the water.
Give it some nice flow, but not too much!!
Good luck!

Grandis.
