help me chose fish

I have a rimless tank setup. trying to stick with open top.
Can you guys give me a list of fish that are reef safe and have a reputation of not jumping out of tanks.

Even clowns jump. Try reading through the forums and finding a sleek netting cover/top build. Cheap, looks great and it doesn't diffuse any light

I have been OK with these in my experience: sixline, yellow tang, scopas tang,GB maroon clown.

Powerheads starting on and off will spook just about anything. I was losing about 1 fish month and am happy to have switched. The sixline probably had a lot to do with my losses. He did not get to come along to the next tank.

my tank is 50G

I'm going to just put a acrylic sheet on top in the beginning and slowly take it off so that i avoid any fish newly introduced being a bit stressed or fretty.

There is no way to acclimate a fish such that it won't jump. The likelihood of jumping is independent of its longevity in your tank.

I agree that most fish can jump from the aquarium. I think the lower the stress level on the fish the less likely they are to jump. I had a few fish jump from my tanks when they were initially set up, including a sixline and a clown. As the tanks matured and the environment settled down I have not had any fish that jumped to their death.

that is what i meant before. to put on a temporary cover until i stocked my tank and after a while, i'd take it off and see how that works out

Quick question about whether i should have a sand sifter in my tank. I'm planning on having corals in my tank and was wondering if a sand sifter would only hurt the corals due to the fine sand that i have. would the sand sifters cause an easy sand storm and lead to the death of future corals?

+1 I had a blenny in a 36" tall cube for a long time. One day I found it behind the tank. It wasn't stressed either.

A trio of Hawaiian leaf fish are unlikely to jump, these guys have to work hard to swim at all, and are hardy and interesting. Seahorses won't jump either, and are compatible with leaf fish. I think those species would make a lovely slooow predator tank. :) NOTE: leaf fish are hard to adapt to taking frozen food, so don't get them if you aren't willing to provide live. Captive bred seahorses should be trained to eat frozen mysis, and have a very good record of survival if you provide them with the right conditions.

I do not believe that acclimation will prevent fish from jumping, there are to many instances that can and will spook fish even if they happen every day, ie. lights going on or turning off.
