Help me decide!

I am looking to get one of these DSLR's and would like to know if anyone has a preference between the Canon Rebel T1i and the Nikon D5000?
Thanks

This is a rather silly question, because you are going to get very bias answers. I'm a Canon man so I say T1i. Nikonians will root for the D5000. In the end you will have a tally of people that read this thread detailing who shoot Canon and who shoot Nikon. Either will work, but you aren't deciding between these two cameras. Rather, you are deciding which of these two companies you will use for the rest of your life. Both are excellent. You can't really loose with either. Nobody can tell you which is better other than personal experience. Your own personal experience with both cameras. Rent them, borrow them, read about them, and decide which company...or family rather, that you want to marry into.

Thanks, I didn't realize I would be starting a war. LOL That wasn't the intention. Just looking for anyone with experience with them.

agreed. youll get so many opinions pointing towards different brands. the best thing is to be OPEN minded and go try out cameras yourself. Getting your hands on dslrs will make it much clearer which one will function the best for your needs. The big two are very safe and will give you great results... but you might find that the lesser known brands also offer the goods.

im bias to pentax so in my eyes the new KX is something to keep in mind

Iceeman does Pentax proud. I can't believe more people don't use that brand. I allllllmost chose them myself, years ago but I am infatuated with Canon's lens lineup. But you see once you DO choose a brand you are most certainly stuck with them. After you spend thousands of dollars on equipment that will ONLY work with other cameras from that company, it becomes hard to switch. Whatever you do, don't take Pentax for granted.
Sony and Olympus make some good SLRs as well. Once you choose one, you will always be with them. In fact, I hope you choose anything besides Canon...because that will make prices lower for me and drive them to make new technologies to stay on top.

In a round about way, it's been said, but start looking at lenses. To a certian extent, that's where most of your money will be going over the next few years. Do you plan on buying everything new??? If not, stay away from Nikon's bottom line. I've purchased a few older Nikon lenses that lose AF on a few of the newer "cheeper" bodies. As said before, you're buying into a system, once there, it's expensive to change.
