they are hard to find regurally, there not popular due to the bad press they get, so no one stocks them. So far it looks like to get the peacock I'm after it needs to be special ordered for me at a lfs from one of their large wholesalers. I've been told it will cost me about $50 to get a 3 - 4 inch peacock within a months time.

Im in exactly the same boat as you, but isn't the species that fishsupply carries a spearer and capable of punching through a JBJ tank? I have a JBJ stabalizing right now for this very purpose, but I want a smasher type species to prevent tank breakage.

That peacock is a smasher, and I doubt it can punch through that tank. I've got a 5+" peacock in a 12g eclipse and it has punched the tank sides a few times, but never gone through it, or even scarred the tank sides. Currently I'm looking for a bigger tank for this guy - thinking about a glass 30 cube, though all I really want is a glass 20 high, but according to Dr. Roy, glass on a 20 has the potential to be broken by a peacock.

The only type I can find on line that is colorful is a peacock from fishsupply.com. Anywhere else?

Check with your LFS to see what they can get. Mine doesn't know much about them, but they can order "a mantis", then I have to see what comes in. While this is not very conveinient and the price varies, I have now received 3 types of mantis shrimp that I could not purchase anywhere on line. There are a ton of places for peacocks, but I have yet to find a single site that offers any other type.
