best bulb for a 400w M59 ballast?
Has anyone used these bulbs on a 400w M59 MH (regular magnetic, NOT HQI) ballast?

XM 400W 20000K SE 1________PPFD__128
Coralvue 400W 20000K SE 1____~____110
Ushio Blue 400W 20000K SE 1___~____109
XM 400W 15000K SE 1_________~____104
Hamilton 400W 14000K SE 1____~______96

thank you Dr. Sanjay!

Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m looking for a bulb to go with my new setupââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦

Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢d like to know how ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œblueââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ each is in your opinion, I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t like that dim look some 20Ks have.

What is the bulb life is before there is a major spectral shift or drop in PAR?

I was looking for 14/15K bulbs but some of the 20ks seem to have better PAR on this ballast.

Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m looking for the most PAR (in the 14/20K range) with a bulb that I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t have to change every 6 months on this ballast. (have it already but havenââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t used it).

Any help would be great, Thanks

these are going in Luminarc reflectors and blended with my 2X BLV 250w DE 10Ks on a 200g(2'x2'x7') SPS tank.

like this, left to right:
6500k 55wPC/400SE/250DE/actinic 2X55wPC/250DE/400SE/6500k 55wPC

The 250w XM 20k was a little too blue for me on an M58, but the 400w are much whiter from everything I have seen and heard. I have a friend running them on Icecaps and they would be really nice on a M59 IMO.

If you are blending with BLV 10K's then the XM shouldn't be too blue. Should give you a nice combination of white lighting and coral fluorescence.

the XM 20K sounds good but how is the bulb life?

do ya think that you could let XM 20Ks go for a year before replacement without seeing a major loss in PAR?

yep an M59 is a 400w probe start ballast.

I was asking snslarison if he was using a 400w...

as apposed to a 250w XM 20K...

thanks just the same... :D

anybody else... please... I would really like to hear from some one running these bulbs on this ballast...

thanks

It might be apples to oranges...
I run 14K on PFO ballast (M59) and run 250 watt XM 15K on M58 ballasts. I prefer the 14K. They look bright and a nice (subjective) light blue. The 15K seem 'dim' by comparison when they are new and much bluer. They have shifted to a little brighter and less blue (but more blue than the 14K) at about 6 months. I can tell no change in the 14K at the same age.
