Ive had this set up for some time. Feels like its not what it could be. Hoping some of you rock artists could lend an opinion.

I plan on it. Ive got about 70lbs in there its just all piled upwards. I had an open layout because i had a tang but I traded him in.

Ok what I would do is put the two rock piles to close together and then connect them with a rock to make it seem like one wall, but I would offset it to the left or right to make room to add on with more rocks and also when it's offset like that it causes the eyes to wander around the tank instead of staring at one point (the middle). And just play around with the rocks try to space them out a little to allow more flow through them, and more hiding spaces for the fish it's also adds more contrast when your looking at it. But hey that's just what I would do you absolutely don't have to because it's your tank and your the one that's gunna be looking at it the most so you should do what you really like I can only give an opinion you do what you want with it

When you do add more, get some different sizes and shapes. They mostly look similar besides the color which will all be close in time.

I'd pull that island on the right away from the side a bit more. Since you have more rock, I build up both islands, making sure to leave gaps and spaces between the rocks. I'd keep one island higher than the other and create a nice canyon running diagonally between them. Another idea would be merge both islands and create large cove / half circle.

But you have to be careful with the cove (half circle) idea because it can be very easy to get a huge dead spot in the cove area where detritus and gunk will build up, I personally love the cove look but it can be a pain with flow

I agree... a cove can be a bit tricky, but keeping a large, open cove area with rocks that gradually incline to the highest point in the back will help keep the area open enough for circulation. I think people run into problems when it's too much of a half circle rock wall. Still might need some creative power head placement :)
