Is there anything I can do to reverse the effect of ammonia poisoning? I have a trigger fish in QT who was doing very well for 2+ months, so much so that I grew lax with my water changes and found him struggling today with signs of ammonia poisoning. I removed him immediately and put him in another QT tank alone with clean water but is there anything else I can do to help him recover? I feel terrible, he had been doing so well and would have been in my display but for the fact that I was waiting on another fish to introduce him together with.

Methylene Blue will help with ammonia poisoning. Give him a bath for 30 min. Just keep an eye on his breathing.

Thanks for the quick reply, but unfortunately I don't haev any methylene blue on hand. I do have malachite green but it is recently expired. Any idea if melafix will work, which is advertised as treatment for damaged fins, ulcers and open wounds?

How it is doing today?
I would imagine best thing for it now would be to have it in fresh well mixed and aerated water and Keep stress down with dimmed lights and hope it pulls through. good luck.

I don’t think melafix will do anything. I would do what lagatbezan suggested if you are unable to buy methylene blue.
