I have had OK luck with Distilled water from Giant Eagle (walmart would work also) about $.58/gallon... $580 to get set up and about $1 a week for top off and 1gal water change.

I enjoy my Green star polyp and my Blue Ricordea Mushrooms, I really like my giant feather duster also, (feed DT Phytoplankton weekly).

If you want to buy a phosphate test kit... 15-20$$ you can test your tap water to see how bad it is, but you never know, algae would likely be a problem with the tap water (but i have a problem with distilled also so i guess maybe it doesnt matter), tap water is working fine with only minimal algae problems in my FW tank...)

Good luck!

As for water, you can get a decent RO/DI unit from Ebay for about $100. If you can't do that you can try a tap water filter they run about $60 and it's better than nothing. Or, finally distilled water. Everyone I have talked to who have "Corals" by Eric Borneman said that it was an excellent book.
