The flesh on top looks ok but not inflated. The bottom sides is desolving and i can see skeleton all around. Is there anything i can do to save this guy, or gal? his feeding tentacles have not been out in weeks. Is there a way i can force fed it? Please help me out so it can live.

I had the same problem last year, mine lost about 75% of its flesh...I almost discarded it. Feeding it didn't work. Then, suddenly it started to regrow slowly. How come ? I don't know.

You can't force it to eat, but you can try turning off the pumps and placing something directly on its mouth. If it's willing to feed, it should take the food in within a half hour or so. Try giving it low flow and putting it in a semi-shaded location and if it will take food I'd feed it daily until it shows signs of recovery.
Mine was deemed 'hopeless' when I took it home from the LFS - it was bleached and had tissue recession - and now it has full colour, inflates well and eats like a pig. These guys are incredibly resiliant, don't give up on it yet.

I am going to do exactly that, His mouth right now is open but the feeder tentacles are not out. i will put food on the mouth to see if he takes it.

Thanks for the advice

Chris

I must admit, I've only seen feeding tentacles on mine a couple of times. I rescued it from the LFS a year ago. It was completely bleached, only some pepto pink left in spots, but it wasn't receding so I gave it a shot knowing it was going to die in their tank anyway. It started eating the first nite I had it and continues to eat like a pig. It's now a gorgeous red. If it takes the food, it should be fine.

Its mouth was open so i shot some food into it yesterday. It kept that food but did not suck in what ws sitting outside the mouth. I shot some food into his mouth today and it spit it out. So i dont know what is going to happen. hopefully it will live. My alkalinity is 6 Dkh, could that have something to do with it? I am slowly raising that right now. And i causght my 14 mo old daughter playing with my thwrmostate, the tank was up to 88. I set it back down to 78 so maybe that had something to do with it too.

Well I got some good news on this guy. He has eaten some more. I also moved him to a even more lower light and lower flow area and he is already showing and improvement 4 hrs later. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Yay!! Given time he should recover, these guys are pretty tough. Take before and after pictures, you'll be amazed :)

I sure wish I had taken pics of mine "before". Of course, all I have to do is drive over to the LFS I got it from and look in the brain tank to remember what it looked like...lol It never ceases to amaze me that every one of their brains looks terrible. If I had a bigger tank I'd save a few more since this one is doing so well.
