I am a fairly new reefer, I have 6' long 24" deep 135 oceanic with live rock and soft corals afew sps . Running now over a year. I have a 80 gallon sump with refugium as well as pro skimmer, chiller, calcium reactor, my lighting is a hamilton 6' 3-250 metal h with 2-6' vho's. My corals since about 4 months new have not grown or flourished like many of my friends tanks. I have asked my reatail guy what I am doing wrong he seems to keep stringing me along to just keep buying more stuff. I have tried 10k bulbs,14k bulbs and 20k bulbs. I have asked how high to set my fixture off the tank he said as close as possible but somehow it just seems too close... I also use ro/di water and all my tests are mint???? What am I doing wrong.... I give up

4 months isn't a very long time. The biggest key to this hobby is patience. It takes years, sometimes decades to grow a reef in the ocean. you can't expect things to start popping up in your tank after only a few months.

Make sure that your water quality is good, and that there are no stresses in your tank, and eventually you will see things start to grow.

I read nothing in you post about dead or dying corals. The fact that things are alive is a VERY big plus. I would sau you are doing something right. once again Patience patience patience.Change one thing at a time if you do try anything.

I've had the best of luck with growth when I use 6500k lights although a lot more yellow than 10k or up.
Keep your perameters in check, keep a stable system, and wait it out. When I add corals they seem to sit dormant for a long time and then take off. 4 months is somewhat a short time to see any real growth, my frogspawn took almost a year before it was showing growth.
