Help please!

I need some help. I recieved my finnex a few days ago and opened it this afternoon to get measurements for my stand. When I opened it I realized my skimmer was broken, although I have never seen a skimmer up close I knew it was by seeing this fal out of it...

Then after I finally figured out how to assemble the lights I plugged them in and the middle bulb doesn't work.

So then I found a broken off bolt that goes to the electronic bassistic box, (wonder why something in it was rattling) would this have something to do woth the center bulb not working?

I feel like such a dunce because I am new to all of this. If I have this bad of luck just starting out what's next:sad2:
I have contacted OceanReeflections and waiting for their reply. Please tell me it will get better.

Sure it broke off at the bottom of the skimmer... This is the bottom view of the skimmer

that looks like it would be pretty easy to fix, but b/c it was damaged during shipping or something, the company you got it from should definitely provide a replacement part.

got a picture of what the entire tank and equipment is supposed to look like?

if you bought it new, they should replace the skimmer for sure. if not, i have the right kind of glue to fix it good as new.

to fix the light, we'd probably have to open up the ballast and check the wiring, one of the wires might have come loose. but opening it would probably void any warranty.

I have emailed the company and awaiting their reply. It is under warranty so they should replace both parts. I waited so long to save up money to purchase this and then when ikt arrived I was disappointed. I'll keep you posted on what they say. If they won't fix it I will need someone to look at the ballast since I know nothing about them.

I have recieved a email from the company. They are sending a starter and wire connector to have the starter replaced. And also a new skimmer. Then I can throw the old skimmer and starter out after a week has passed.
So IMO that's great news!

no need to toss the skimmer. we can fix it easy. that way you'll have a backup

That's what I was thinking. And maybe someone could use the starter and wires for the ballast. I'm sure their not damaged, just some wires are probably loose.

So Heather, they are shipping you new starter and wires conectors for your ballast? they want you to open the ballast box and repare? WOW. If you need any help on the ballast box please give me a shout. I have a few tools at the shop that could be used.

Ade yep you are correct. I have no idea what to look for being this is the first time I have even seen a ballast up close and personal lol. So I just might have to take you up on that offer.

I give up! I just recieved my 2nd skimmer and the bottom is broken. A large piece is chipped off. And the powerhead will not go into it and stay because of it. Ade my starter arrived today as well. Which looks like a foreign object to me. Does anyone have a extra skimmer they want to sell that will fit in my finnex?

Man that sucks. I think that Matt said that he had the right kind of glue. Hope that the starter is ok.

Yeah the only thing that worries me is if the skimmers can't handle shipping how are they going to keep my tank clean?

i'd suggest weld-on 40 to fix it (which i have plenty of). but i'm all the way down here and you're all the way up there. ever make it to UA? i could meet you there sometime. or if there's a roanoke meeting sometime soon...

I don't get to Roanoke very often but I could make a special trip to meet you there. I need to pick up some salt mix and some sand anyway.
