I have been having this happen lately...I make some RO water...comes out crystal clear...

I mix some Coralife Salt mix and the water within 1hr is turning green/brown...

What is that? Anyone ever have a similar issue?

Either the salt mix has gone bad or somehow your RO water is contaminated (check TDS, filters, etc)

Also your PM box is full :)

Is it a new mix of salt or one you've had and used for a while and it worked out okay? I wouldn't put anything that color in my tank unless it was pure clean phyto!

This was a sealed bag of salt...

I just opened it last week, but it has a ziplock seal...

This is so damn strange...

I will check with my tds meter, but last I checked it was like 8...

like i said the water is crystal clear until I mix the salt...so strange!

Was this bucket used for anything else?
8ppm TDS from RODI or RO Only? I would re-check the TDS again.
You stated that the bag had a ziplock seal, was it sealed prior to this mixing?

I only use the bucket for salt mix and water changes...nothing more nothing less...It is an old salt bucket...

The bag was sealed since it's last use last sunday/monday when it was first opened...

The TDS PPM was actually 13 when I checked after my message...It is RO unit only...not RODI

...I dunna I would just like to know what is probably causing this...

Actually...I am thinking it is the salt...My last mix had a similar problem to this...didn't hurt anything in my system, but it was not this miscolored...lol...

Based on what you have stated I would have to agree that it is the salt mix. The bucket was clean the TDS is 13 which I would reccomend adding a DI to drop this to 0 to insure purity.
Dump the water and get some new salt is my suggestion
Anyone else have any ideas??

What I am thinking also...sigh...what a fun issue this is...

I am going to contact coralife and see if they can send a replacement...

Anywho thanks for your input! :)

I have been running at 33 tds for about two weeks with no ill effects because i have been lazy, no brown water here. It has been clear as a whistle.

I would go and get some RO water from another source and see if it turns brown when mixed with the salt you have. Way cheaper than replacing the salt.

I would get on the horn with coralife and get them to send you a voucher.....and throw the mix in the garbage........

that batch of salt has been contaminated........which cost you more? the livestock in the tank, or the bag of salt?

I'd probably chance throwing away a perfectly fine bag of salt than chance throwing away a perfectly good tank.......there's no telling what you might be putting in there.
