Help Removing clam from live rock

Hello,

I need some suggestions on how to remove a 5-6" clam from a 20lb rock. I am moving tanks soon, and want to remove this guy from the rock so i can place the rock in the tank, and properly acclimate my clam on a later date. I heard that if you damage the foot than the clam usually dies. I was going to try and chisle it off the rock by going way under the clam and remove only rock and not touching the clam. But i thought there might of been a better/easier way?

thanks

Hmm.. well one way would be to razor as little foot off as possible. The problem with their foot is if you rip the clam out and it "tears" it off. Another way would be to tickle the guy off the rock.. which takes more time to do but is less traumatic. Chsleing the rock off is going to be very difficult and possible problematic. You would have to get the rock out... and then find a way for the clam not to fall off and tear its foot off under it weight..
