could someone give me their dream list for my new 45g. Its going to be a reef tank with mostly LPS and Softies. Its a 42in long bowfront

Yellow Watchmen Goby w/Pistol Shrimp
2 Onyx Percula Clowns
Cherub Angel
Cleaner Shrimp (possibly a pair)

Just a suggestion, but you could take out the YWG for some other shrimp goby like yasha.

I would go with a pair of clowns, ocellaris or percs are nice. If you have the room I would throw in a BTA as well.

As far as other fish go, I had a midas blenny that was one of the coolest fish I have ever had. I also had one of the fang blennies that I was really fond of as well. As long as you choose well and get a reefsafe variety, I don't think you could have a better fish personality wise.

In a tank this size, since you aren't able to keep lots of fish, I would keep the most personable fish you can find that won't hide.

You could do a pair of clowns(percula, ocellaris or black clowns would be smallest), pearly jawfish depending on depth of substrate, royal gramma and a flasher wrasse.

I love my clown gobies and they stay small. I have 2 yellow, 1 green and a black in my 46 gallon and my yellow tail blue damsel is still small and peaceful.

I agree with James with the limited size of the tank you need to get the most bang for your buck when it comes to your selections and personality is what i would really keep in mind.

If you want personality and are looking to get a bunch on the smaller side, I loved my Barnacle Blenny. Best fish I've ever had.

My 46 has the following, I admit its a little overstocked, but it has been this way for 2 years and I have had extremely good luck. Nitrates, Ammonia, Nitrites, and PH all stay in their proper ranges, providing I do weekly water changes (5 gal). I can let things go 2 or 3 weeks without a waterchange, but I normally try to avoid that.

Anyways

46gal Bowfront
2 cleaner shrimp
2 peppermint shrimp
Yellow Tang, Adult, Raised from a baby
Blue Tang, 6 or 7", raised from the size of a quarter!
6 Line wrasse
Psychadelic Mandarin (60 lbs live rock, plus he eats prepared food twice a day)
Zebra Goby
Banghai Cardinal (fun fish, always out lingering)
Perc Clown

I must say I advise against the Blue tang, he was good as a baby and looks fine now, except the tank is too small for him. He doesnt cause any problems, and gets along with everyone so hes staying for now. Within the course of 6 months Im moving and getting a 125, he will move to that tank so please dont get all flamey on me!

With water changes, skimming and good filtration you can achieve good results long term.

At its max, this tank also had a Wantanabei Angel (for 10 months) but he was found dead a few hours after I fed him the other day. I couldnt find any cause, but his decomposing body had a fireworm (positive its not a regular bristle worm) in it. I removed the worm and wonder if he attacked the fish and killed/stressed him.
