Help using a macro lens

I just got a Canon T3 with Sigma 50mm f.28 ex dg macro lens. Is there a way to zoom in when I want to take more 1:1 pics? For example, taking pics of corals in back of the tank; I can't get 1 inch away from them. Do I need a 100mm lens?

You can move the coral closer... Maybe? Fixed lens is fixed at 50mm...

Getting the 100mm macro is still fixed... But you can move yourself back and fourth to zoom and due to the 100mm it's much 'zoomier' than your 50mm.

Maybe rent or borrow one for the day and try.

Getting extension tubes will allow get closer to a subject (if it is close already) and still be able to focus. That will make the object appear larger in the frame, as if you had zoomed in on it. That however will not allow you to "reach" further back in the tank to get to the corals there. It will only allow you to get closer to things that now are too close for you to focus on. For the reach you're talking about you will need to move them forward toward you or get a longer lens (like has been mentioned by the other posters).
