Help w/ heater

My heater just exploded in my tank. Is there any type of chemical or anything that need to worry about inside of the glass tube? I got all of the glass out but there is burning smell and the tank is clouded up.

Sorry, but yes glass heaters have copper in them which can crash your tank. I would suggest a full and entire water change and run some fresh carbon. My titanium in the 75 is a Finnex, I have also heard Won Bros. are good. I would think a heater in the 50-75 wt range should be appropriate...the heater box will be marked with a range that it is made for.

Thanks Carole,

I'm in NY right now so a water change will have to wait unitl I return. I will have my wife keep close eye on the system until I get back. I did check it early this morning before I left and everything looked OK.

:D Wow, really?? I am so off...how much would I need for a 55 gallon?? Thanks.:D

Some people like to run two heaters in bigger systems..in case one gives out. In my 75 I have a 300 wt. titanium. I would think a 250 would do for a 55.

Man... I guess Im in the market for two 100watt heaters. ..and my tanks been running for 6 months, cant believe it. Thanks so much waterfaller1.

Try JSK heaters ...titanium so no glass and are pretty reliable. They work on controlers so they are also very easy to set exactly where you want. :)
