Help with Cupramine for oodinium treatment.

Hi guys,

I got oodinium in my main tank, i'm losing my fishes. =(

I need to start a cupramine treatment, i need some advise here, i have 3 tanks right now:

My main tank.
A new tank (almost the same size), with substrate and rocks. (no animals)
A ready hospital tank ( 40L ).

I was thinking to treat my fishes one by one in the hospital tank, and put them in the new tank, and put them back to the main tank after 3 months.

I will use the cupramine in the hospital tank, and not in the new tank.

How long should i let the fishes in the cupramine?

Is it that the best approach? what do you think?

I would treat all of your fishes at once in the hospital tank. Follow the cupramine instruction. Does 16 drops per 10.5 gallons the first day, follow by the same dosage 48 hours later. Leave this in the tank for 2 weeks. Whenever you do a water change or topoff of your hospital tank, make sure to add the right amount of cupramine as well so that the level stays at 0.5. Leave your main tank fishless for about 8 weeks. I just went through this with my 120g DT. All my fish came back nice and healthy. While you're at it, check for flukes and treat for another 5-7 days with Prazipro after your cupramine treatment since these fishes need to stay in the hospital tank for 8 weeks. No need to really remove the cupramine from the water since I dose both at the same time.

But my hospital tank is just 10.5 gallons, and i have:

1 Yellow Tang
2 Black ocellaris
2 Ocellaris
2 Firefish
1 Six Line
1 Melanurus
1 Four strip damsel
1 blue/yellow damsel ( i do not remember the name).

So my hospital tank it's not enough for all of these fishes. =(

I just bought the tank this weekend i do not know if the store will replace by a bigger to me.

Which size it's recommend?

If I can not change the size, maybe i can treat the fishes in 2/3 groups.

What do you think?

Uh oh... Return all the fish to the store as soon as you can. You just setup the hospital tank this weekend and you want to move them there to treat! New tank syndrom will kill them.

Anyway, I was just being sarcastic! This is the general reponses that I got when my fishes got ick. My advice is to use your best judgement and prevent contamination.

What do I know! I am still treating my fishes in another thread discussion for ick. I feel your frustration and I am here to show support.

I can not return them to the store, they do not have space to treat them.

I have a empty and matured tank, but has substrate and rocks, i read that it's not good for cupramine treatment.

So I setup the new 40L with just water (no rocks and substrate), and i'll keep the parameters ok with water changes, i really do not know which way follow here, i'm worried to lost all of my fishes, i'm thinking to move Tang and the Black clowns to the hospital tonight, and let them 2 weeks, they are the worst now.

After the treatment, i'll put them in the new tank, and start a treatment for the new group, and move this group for the new tank, i'll let all fishes in the new tank for 2/3 months, and then back to the main tank.

How do you setup your hospital?

I just used put some PVC tubs in the bottom, a hang over filter (not biologic), and water, i'm making tests every day, and will change the water when start increasing ammonia and nitrite (i think every day), i'm using natural water for that.

My fishes are showing sign of recovery. Corals are doing fine. I don't have to mess with QT tank or Copper. This is the way to go for me.

How is the Herbtana working for you? I have seen both good and bad reviews for the product. I bought it when my tang got ich but used hypo salinity in a hospital tank instead. I was very reluctant to use the product in my display. I read another post the other day that said Herbtana doesn't do much for ich but killed snails. Just to mention from your other post, no one is here to beat you up, just concern for your critters

The Herbtana is working for me great. I am in day 5 and my fishes are having alot less white spots. Especially the Powder Brown Tang does not have any more white spots. It's a miracle. I have poured about 5 oz of these stuff in my display tank for the past 5 days without skimming. I turned on skimmer today though.

Along with the treatment, I feed them with brineshrimp and mysis shirmp mixed with fresh garlic extract. It's amazing that they eat garlic too. I wasn't a believer until today to see them much improved. After the treatment of 10 days I will change 25% water.
My corals are opening so I guess they like this stuff too. I am excited.

You are wasting time and money telling people reef safe treatments work..............

You might think the product is dong something but its just the life cycle of crypt......

Treating in Cupramine seems to be the treatment of choice. The problem the poster is going tohave is not having biological fitration. By not having biological filtration you will get a rise in amonnia that will harm the fish. You can combat this by using bacteria in a bottle like Stability but its not a guarentee...Your in a tough spot......Let me think about it...................You have a 10 gallon tank for treating? Any others?

What makes you think its velvet and not crypt? How long have the fish shown signs?
