Help with ? disease

I had a blue tang and a flame hawk on a 20G QT tank. Tang was hiding all the time so really didnt see him. But never saw any signs of ich. few days later it died .

On close exam it had a discolouration around the side fin of about 3/4 an inch diameter with here and there some bumps of same skin colour. Checked the water. Nh3 0 NO2 0.2 and NO3 1. Had done water changes a week before. He had been eating well too.

Now on the hawk fish I see spots of pale areas all over its skin. He eats well and is active. Not even sure those spots are normal ?

Any suggestions ? What kind of disease is it?
Sorry didnt have a chance to get a pic.

No obvious answer .. stress and ammonia are high on the list of fish deaths in QT .. when in doubt a water change with "aged" water will help.

Yeah he was the only other fish.

The hawk fish died too. When I took him out of the tank, I would say within an hour or two, he had minute ? worms/ ? insects all over its body. These very small ones were actually moving pretty fast.

You should have no detectable nitrite. Why do you have detectable nitrite? May be there is low level ammonia on and off.

The QT should be cycled as thoroughly as the ST.

Is that really true. I am not sure I ever got a zero nitrite. Always the ammonia is 0. NO2 keeps climbing over time as do NO3.

I do the water changes every week to keep them under control
