Hello Everyone,
I've finally come to the point where I will be adding fish to my tank and wanted to get some feedback from you guys to narrow down the list and placement order...
First, here's the specs on my tank:
> Will be keeping mostly SPS, clams and a few LPS as well as various snails, a blue tuxedo urchin and cleaner shrimp as part of the livestock
> My lighting consists of 2X250W 15,000K MH (since some of the fish I list might not prefer bright lighting but may be able to acclimate)
> I do not have a cover for my tank, BUT, I do have a canopy that is almost entirely enclosed (i.e., all but the bottom 3 or 4 inches is covered on the backside of the canopy)
> Because I am keeping SPS and clams, I am trying to create a list that is not too heavy of a bioload (even though I have 100+ lbs of LR and a DSB ranging between 4-6 inches along with a skimmer rated up to 150 gallons)
So now that you have the breakdown of my tank, here's the list and the order I was thinking of placing them:
1. Randall's Goby paired with tiger pistol shrimp: I actually just added this pair into the tank last weekend and both are doing great and already paired up.
2. Yellow Tail Damsel (Chrysiptera parasema): I mainly want a smaller blue fish that will swim in the middle of the water column and this guy seemed to fit the bill. I've also read that for a damsel, they aren't that aggressive. So unless anyone has any other suggestions or reasons why I shouldn't get this guy, this is the splash of blue I'm looking to add to my tank and will probably add him to my quarantine tank this weekend for a few weeks until he is added to the DT.
3. Orchid Dottyback (Psuedochromis fridmani): I mainly was looking for another splash of color here (obviously in the purple or red range), but would also be open to any suggestions that you might have. I originally was looking at a number of firefish (i.e., the purple firefish or helfrich's), but know that they are pretty good (or bad depending on how you look at it) jumpers and was concerned about the opening in the lower-back part of my canopy. Also, I know that dottybacks are typically pretty aggressive, but that this one is apparently one of the better behaved ones (never had one so I don't have personal experience on that issue).
4. Starry Blenny (Salaris ramosus): I've heard nothing but good things about this fish (with the exception of possibly them nipping at clam mantles here and there). Unless anyone has any horrible experiences with this fish, I've pretty much made up my mind on getting one. Just looking for some personality and a fish that will add some activity to the rock work while maintaining any algae growth.
5. Sunburst Anthias (Serranocirrhitus latus): I again was looking for some more color here (pinks/yellows), but am concerned about the fact they come from deeper depths and aren't used to bright lights. I've kept one before when I had only PC's, but never have kept them under MH's (although I've seen them in tanks with MH's). If this fish doesn't work, I was also looking at the Twinspot Hogfish (Bodianus bimaculatus) or a Mystery Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus ocellatus) however, I'm not too familiar with either of these fish first hand (since I've never kept them), but have read up on them. Any input would be appreciated though.
So I'm basically looking for any comments/concerns/suggestions that you may have that might help me in this process. Even if you have fish suggestions of your own (that aren't already on the list), I am definitely open to changing the list a bit (with the exception of the Randall's goby and the Starry Blenny).
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
