Help with Flukes

:( I have a Atlantic Tang that I have been trying to rid him of what I thought was Flukes. I did the fresh water dip and found small white transparent spheres in the container after treatment. I treated the QT with Prazipro for 5 days. I went back with carbon filtration and he was looking good for a few days but I think it came back. I removed the carbon and repeated the above and saw the same items left over after treatment. Is it possible that I might be treating it wrong. I also have noticed that his fins are cloudy and he also has what might be a small tumor like growth on one of his gills. I have repeated the PraziPro treatment.

There's a big thread about flukes somewhere here, maybe someone can post it (I'm on a slow connection now). Some people have had to do 3 or 4 consecutive 5-7 day treatments for persistent flukes, with water changes in between. During each treatment, don't skim (I just remove the skimmer cup and let the skimmer pump aerate the water), and remove chemical filtration and carbon as you've been doing.

Yes, the description of the floating particles in the FW dip is consistent with flukes. I agree with aleonn, some infestations require multiple treatments and FW dips to eradicate. Your tang may have some secondary bacterial infections requiring treatment as heavy fluke infestations can damage the gills.

I would continue with your Prazipro treatment and at the conclusion if the cloudy fins and growth are still present, you may need to treat with an antibiotic. I would not recommend treating with Prazipro and antibiotics at the same time.

Here's the excellent thread regarding flukes and the use of Prazipro:

Dan,

Thanks for the feedback. I had to do a 20% water change on the 4th day of PraziPro; ammonia was slightly present. I'm nearing the 7 day of treatment. I was thinking of doing a 50% water change and going back with a full dose PraziPro treatment. Or should I do the water change and first use an antibiotic?
