Help With Food

Hello Fellow Reefers

Well, my tank is healthy, my fuge is working well, new lights go up in a week or 2 so I want to make sure my fishies are eating good, so can someone point me in the right direction as to a recipe for the tank inhabitants listed below? I see soooooo many articles I don't know what to think, so lets ask the people with the knowledge. See below.

135 Oceanic. Lots of live rock, and live sand. Sump Fuge ect..
Fish: Blue Tang, Sailfin Tang, Royal Gramma, Pajama Cardinal, 2 green Chromis. Scooter Blenny, Pearlie Jawfish and a Clarkii Clown
Verts: 2 Cleaner Shrimp and 2 Peppermint Shrimp and a nice size Trakaphelia. Lots of sand sifting stars, several big snails and like 10 striped leg hermits.

Let me know. I'm most worried about the blenny getting what he/she needs. I've been doing the Salt Water Mix cubes and adding Spirinula Shrimp and Mysis and then hanging some nori in the tank on a clip 2 times a week.

Thanks

Dennis

i feed my guys a huge variety of foods. I normally suggest this inorder to allow your fish to benefit from multiple types of vitamens proteins, ect. i feed them bio pure mysis, bloodworms, king fish eggs, cyclopeeze (make sure youge the frozen bar not the freezedried stuff), this stuff from FAOIS called biopure: mega marine Algae, spurlina cubes, and on occasion, formula VHP for fattening smaller fish. I also alternate between green nori and the red/green nori that ig et from FAOIS as well. This providest he tangs to munch on things during the day.

Just a word of advice for your list, make sure you dont put too many sand sifting stars, i would say maybe 2 or 3 because if they run out of ditritus and stuff in the sand to eat, they will die and pollute your system and it'll waste your money.i would focus more on smaller hermits for your tank to clean the rocks and left over food.

I wouldnt worry about the blenny too much, i would just feed in several different spots int he tank, in that way the fish are busy swimming back and forth trying to gather food, rather then just staying in one spot, this will open a chance for your blenny to get his fill.i personally hand feed my pink spot goby because he eats like a big and even eats nori!

My students mix up the food for our tanks. We use a frozen raw seafood pack from Publix (1lb. for $3), green and nori, formula 1 & 2, frozen cyclopeeze, frozen enriched brine, bloodworms and some flake. We mix it in a blender and freeze it in flattened ziplocs so it's easy to break off. I also give the tang nori on a clip most days.

We have so many types of fish, corals, inverts etc. Everyone seems to be eating lots and be healthy. We can make enough food for 1,000 gallons of tank inhabitants for months for about $40.

Let's see ... I'll forget some I think.

2 pajama cardinals
big yellow tang
2 watchman gobies
some huge crazy goby - don't know name
2 pink spot gobies
27 clown fish
4 clown gobies
about a dozen little beach gobies
3 lawnmower blennies
4 green chromis
many damsels
purple fridmani dottyback
neon gobies
chalk basslet
rainbow wrasse (he's a bully pig)
mangrove snapper
pinfish
grunt
2 ugly filefish
2 Sgt. Majors
lobsters
one BTA (just got him...hoping he does well)
all kinds of crabs and snails

I didn't realize we were up to that much (holy crap!).

Anyways, as you can see, lots of fish who need a lot of different things. I am HOPING they are all getting what they need...so far they all seem happy/healthy. I'm curious too about what others say.

When I first got my tang the first thing I did was do research on how and when to feed tangs. This is what I have found:

Number 1 they are Herbivores. Being that they need lots of veggies. They will eat meaty foods but for overall health must be offered fresh or dried veggies (Seaweed - dried or fresh, Seaweed Salad etc). Mine would eat only meaty foods if I let him - I'm the adult and I know better so I make him eat his veggies - now if I could teach myself to eat properly -:D. They are constantly looking for food and need to have a source of veggies at all times. Mine will pick at the rocks but it is still important that you provide "Seaweed" for them.

I mix my own food for the others which I put together the following:
Vitamins: Vita-Chem
Zoe
Selco

My carnivores - Wrasses, gobies get the following:
from the grocery store and whole (Of course taking any shells off):
Shrimp, mussels, clams, some type of fish. Frozen Krill, mysis shrimp and plankton. I have dry formula 2 and some other type of dry food (good mix). I put all this in a mixer and add a little fresh saltwater - pack it up in baggies (freezer safe) and put it into the freezer - good for 3 to 4 months.

My Omnivores (Clownfish - that I love :D)
They get the same as above but my mix I put more veggies into the mix. I add seaweed, formula 2 etc. I believe 30 - 40% of their diet should be vegetables so that is what they get first - then about 3 - 5 minutes later they get the meaty stuff.

Herbivore - they get the above but again veggies first and throughout the day and then they get the meaty mix.

They do get live brine once or twice a week (treat).
I never give them the same foods twice in one day, I really mix up what I give them.

AM - dry formula 2, with some ORA pellets and a little mixture of something else. If I see anything on them they get medicated food at this time. They are hungry and will eat anything in the AM.

Seaweed is placed out for my tang in the AM.

Lunch - half a cube of mysis or if no time - dry ora etc or my frozen mix (small amount).

Dinner - frozen mix that I make up as above with some veggies first.

My fish are very healthy and some say a little over weight. I believe if they would ever get sick the would survive just about anything :D.

I hope this helps!

WOW .. so much information .. I wanted to ask the same question. But I have another one ... my tangs eat to fast and my clowns cant swim fast to get the food. I make sure everybody eats a little piece but I am not sure if they are eating enough.

How do you feed your clowns? how do you prevent your tangs from eating the clowns food?

Thanks :)

Do you realize our fish and inverts eat better than we do. Just how many times a week do we get to eat shrimp?? OYE... Half my freezer door and part of the fridge door is devoted to fish food.
Good thing the wife likes my hobby too...LOL
Try feeding on both ends of the tank at the same time. Hopefully the tangs will be occupied long enough for your clows to get some .

Mine eat MUCH better than I do. Yes at first it didn't go over very well with fish food in the fridge - now they have their section of the fridge and the freezer - lol. They are part of our family as much as my dogs - my one dog is insanely jealous of the fish. Of course he has his little tricks he pulls - like sneaking into the dry food, taking one of the containers and getting on my bed and eating the whole can - LOL he is a mess. With that hound dog nose you can't hide anything!
