Help with Gorgonian

I recently purchased a photosynthetic gorgonian from DD. I understand this is the NPS forum but I was hoping there would be more people with experience with gorgonians checking here.

After a few moves to get it in the right flow, I am getting polyp extension and the coral looks good; however, several tips of branches have decayed and I assume need to be fragged. How far below the tissue deterioration should I cut? Sorry, terrible picture. But it's really only accessible top-down.

Depending on the situation, it may not need to be fragged. I had several gorgonians get stung by a hammer and had their skeletons exposed. It just regrew over the skeleton within a few days after relocating them.
