Hello everyone. So I purchased a tank someone had already pre drilled. I tried measuring the box I had from glass holes and was going to use it. But the previous owner drilled it too high for that to be possible. So I set the tank up and did not know how loud the gurgle / slurping noise would be in the overflow. How do I quiet this thing down? ANY HELP APPRECIATED !!

Oof. This is going to be brutal. I don't see how you can change this. My first thought was going full siphon, but the only problem is you don't have an emergency drain, or at least any I can see from the picture.

What I would do, is either drill another hole in the glass for an emergency drain and run a herbie overflow. Easy way to have a silent, basically failsafe overflow. I feel like I'm missing something but that's what I would do. The only problem with this is drilling a full tank really sucks, and you'd have to buy a new overflow weir.

Good luck. Hopefully someone who's a little bit more DIY than I am can help you more. A post in the DIY forum or Equipment forum may help more than this forum, lots of knowledgeable folks in there.

If you face it down and drill a small hole in the top it might not be tooo bad. I wouldn't do that unless you have the ability to replace the 90 in case it's worse. If the 90 is trapped in there, don't do it.

Is it just the one drain?

Turn that frown.....errrrm 90 upside down (the one in the overlfow). Replace the 90 (the drain)in the second pic with a street T. put a cap on the top of the street T and drill a hole that's barely big enough for some airline tubing. Shove a piece of airline in there. You could even use one with a silencer on it. If you need a better explanation I can post pics of my setup or just look at your Glass holes overflow 90 to get a better idea. The Street T works better than the 90 provided by GH IMO.

Also, as somebody mentioned above. An emergency drain isn't a bad idea but that would require you to drain the tank, drill another hole and install a second overflow box or a larger one. I would just make sure your display can hold the amount of water from your return section in your sump. Or run your return section low enough to compensate.

Thanks everyone for the input and help. This is what I ended up doing and it helped on sound and flow a ton!
