Hi everyone,

As I am fairly new to the hobby I’m asking for your opinion. I have done a lot of reading of the forum before posting this thread up. So I’m sorry for another ‘ich’ topic.

My tank (50gallons) has been running fine for about 4 months now. I just got a Aqua one marin sys 240 (2nd hand) running for about 4 weeks now.

My blue tang has got a severe case of ‘ich’ and it looks like there is no return for it now. But my royal dottyback is getting discolour on the edge of its fin, could that be a sign of ‘ich’?

I have tried to feed it nori and flake food soaked in garlic extract but so far no progress.

I’m still a newbee to this hobby so I don’t have a hospital tank to put the ill fishes in. I’ve tested my water and everything is in good condition.

could this be caused from the new filter? Is it worth taking apart the filter and clean it again?

just keep treating with the garlic if they eat it, it should work! It has worked every time for me I have saved many sick fish with garlic. You can also try hanging a clove in the water flow in the tank.

Please read the ich sticky posts at the top of the forum.

The two effective cures cures for ich are hyposalinity or copper .. both require a hospital tank.

To my knowledge there is no scientific study that supports garlic as a cure for ich. Garlic may be a healthy food stimulate which in turn may have some benefits which may bolster the fish's immune system .. but I doubt its any different that selcon or other similar products.

Garlic has always been hit or miss in most threads. Hypo or copper are sure cures. There are no scientific studies, documented or otherwise, to back up any claims that garlic cures fish of ich.

This is no surprise!
Garlic has probably killed more fish as it's used for a cure all.
You need to take the fish out of the display.
Put them in a hospital tank and treat with hypo or copper.
