Help with ID and Aiptasia on small rock

Hi, Could someone help identify this little creature. It looks like a pests. I found a couple of them on this new frag I received. The frag was attached to a small rock. I did a freshwater dip and scrapped all these little creatures off. I may have missed some and want to prevent any outbreaks from happening if they are bad. I wasn't thinking properly and I put the rock in my display tank.

I also received some Ricordea's that were attached to a small rock as well. I see small Aiptasia on them. Should I take it out and quarantine it?

Wrong forum :-p.

The critter is a Chiton. They're a gastropod (snail), and totally harmless. In fact, I'd call them beneficial, as they're pretty good algae eaters.

Since the aiptasia rock is on its own, take it out and hit the aiptasia with a lighter or torch.

If you have fish, QT the rock for 10 weeks. If you don't, don't add any fish for 10 weeks.

Sorry was looking for the right place to put this, but thanks for your quick help. Is the qt because of the effects of the torch on the aiptasia?

The QT is to keep the fish from getting ich or another parasite like velvet.

You are much less likely to get those kinds of parasites from rock or inverts than fish, but the chance is not zero. I recently got ich from some inverts that weren't QTed.

Torching the Aip will just kill it (and possibly algae/critters around it). It will harmlessly melt when put back into water.

Usually for these kinds of questions, the general reef discussion forum is the right place.

This forum is more for specific questions about treating or QTing fish.
