these creatures are about 1/8" long, translucent with no real color, grayish white i guess would be the best description, appear to have several legs, can't tell if if they have any antennae. they only go back and forth between the holes in the live rock in the shady areas, and don't appear to come out in the open at night. they have the same general shape (from what i can tell) as shrimp... remind me a little of mysis and copepods... but they move around like little bolts of lightning, so it's hard to tell exactly how they're shaped, and also why i don't have any pictures. as soon as i shine a light on them they disappear. i was feeding a live rock only tank for about 6 months before i added anything to the tank btw, so whatever these are had a no/little competition environment for a while. i thought maybe they were a population of mysis shrimp, but these don't appear to have the long transparent tail. they also move faster and appear to have more coordinated movements than mysis. if anyone could point me in the right direction in what to look for i'd appreciate it

i also don't really have anything that would bother them. i haven't had a tank in probably 10 years or so, but my wife wanted one, so i've been setting this one up to her liking. inhabitants so far, 1 ocellaris, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 turbo snail, and 1 margarita snail. those have been added within the past month or so. probably get a candy cane pistol and orange stripe or yasha goby, and maybe a flame angel down the road. maybe some more inverts to fill roles/niches, but it's a 55 gallon, so not much more of anything.

thanks for the response. some of the pics look similar. i wish i could get a better look at them, or especially take pictures. they don't really come out onto the rocks, just stay in the cave like areas with lots of holes. the only other hitchikers i've been seeing are asterina stars

Amphipods will roam from one hole to the next, they don't really come out in the open on the sadbed much. They move almost identical to mantis shrimp.
