I need help from the community.

What is the name of this coral? Plate Coral maybe

My wife and I had a spot show up on our coral. We have had it for 8 years with no problems until a month ago and the flesh started to come off and deteriorate. Now the sores are popping up in other places on the surface.

Can someone point us in the right direction of what to do or what parameters to check?

Parameters:
Temp: 80F
pH: 8.2

That's a Pagoda Cup, or Turbinaria.

Not really sure what's going on in that circled area. Nothing has changed in the tank? Could something have fallen on that area, like some salt crust/creep from the tank rim? Or is there a buildup of detrius in that area?

perhaps a shot of the coral where its placed in the tank would help identify the problem. could be too much light or not enough. lack of water flow or too much, etc.

+ 1 on Pagoda. Not a turbinaria (a.k.a. scroll coral)

Actually, that's the problem with trade names versus the scientific names. A Pagoda Cup Coral *is* a species of Turbinaria. So is Scroll. A Pagoda Cup is Turbinaria peltata, while corals called "Scrolls" can be one of many other species of Turbinaria.
