Help with nutrient management.

I have a 20 gallon tall with a 10 gallon sump, and a 20 gallon frag tank plugged into that. I mainly interested in sps and really hoping to turn my tank into a small stick garden. The problem I'm having is with nutrients and algae or cyano (I say it like that because when the cyano kicks up the HA subsides and vice versa). I'm not running any macros because as you can imagine, the sump is crowded with a big skimmer, dosers, on and on. Anyway, so I started running seachem carbon (mainly because when I held my water up in the sunlight it was tanned), I'm also running phosban as well as vinegar dosing and feeding pellets once a day. The tank has been set up for quite some time but adjusted many times. Any ideas guys if the recent addition of granulars will help much. Tank looks alot better actually being clear now, but I want the algae gone as you can imagine. Thanks in advance.

Sps require stable water conditions. Small tanks have pretty good swings. You might end up just chasing parameters.

So I ran some carbon and phosban yesterday and did a water change. Much to my surprise there was no post water change film on the glass like usual after a water change. I do not want this to be a fix all or anything like that, but I could see where running it once a week would most difinitely help.
