I'M not sure what diameter of pvc I should use. the pump I'm going to use is the Quiet One 9000 it has a rating of 2328gph and a maximum head of 19'. I have to pump the water 11' ,up from basement to top of tank. the over flow box I have is rated at 1500gph. I was thinking of using 1" for the return would this be okay.

I'd go at least 1.5". That will give you plenty of flow even if you somehow get a restriction, plus if you up grade to a bigger pump or tank, the plumping is in place.

It depends on how much room you have to work with also. 1.5" PVC can get bulky to work with. I know because that's what i have coming off my Dart. You could also run 1.25" which seems to take up less space. Also plug in your pump in the calculator and swap out the diff pipe sizes and see where you want to be.
