help with SPS issue

im jsut posting this to help a friend, he acquired a mini colony of echinata and lately notice that the tips of the echinata is white and hollow and brown algae is growing on it

what is the problem with it?

and how do you take of that?

Alk would be number one on the list of suspects. Have him check that over a weeks time to see whether it's swinging.

+1 ALK , high alk results in burnt tips generally.
