Help with strange thing on PBT body!

Hi,

I've a PBT and his is eating pretty much of everything. I'm giving a mix of nori, Tetra Color, Tetra Spirulina, Sera Marine and Garlic Guard.

My parameters are:

Nitrate: 10ppm
Nitrite : 0
NH4 :0
Ph : 8.22
ORP: 300-310
UV 36w
140gal reef.

The PBT had a small black thing, like a discoloration in the back of the body, and now he's fighting with a YT, that is older than he's in the reef.
I really don't think that this thing on the photo is because of the fight.
He's just normal, and he isn't scrathing like ich.

Can anyone help me with this, or just feed him and see what comes?!?!
Thanks

The photos are here in my flickr:

Doesn't look like any fish disease i've come across.
Since the PBT is feeding well and acting normal (and no better ideas thus far), i'd go with your latter idea to see how things go...
Or, it might be the rare spotted PBT:lol2:
You may want to post it on the fish disease forum for other opinions...

Not a tang/disease expert by any means...
Still, I thought I would offer some thoughts..
If the discoloration just appeared and you also recently noticed aggression with your yellow tang then it could be an injury from dueling with the YT. Keep a close eye on it, but if you don't notice the damage worsening or the fish's behavior changing, then focus on keeping water quality up and feedings nutritionally balanced and regular. If things worsen then moving the PB into quarantine- before things get ugly- would be wise. Surgeonfish can be terrors..

How often are you feeding nori? Are you soaking any of the tang's food in a vitamin? (such as selcon or vitachem) Are you mixing up feedings with high protein, meaty options?

I'm hoping you have read the primer... If not-

Hi,
I'm feeding nori about 3 times a week, and there's also nori in my mix of food. For the moment I'm not soaking in tang's food vitamin. The only thing that i soak into is garlic guard, but i know that this is just sh&t. My mix is Tetra Color, Tetra Flaves, Sera Pellets, Spirulina, Nori and artemia ( i tried to translate this word, but i didn't find it ). Here is dificult to find mysis, so what kind of meaty options can you suggests? He's fat and I notice that the fight between the YT and the PBT was a good one, because the YT now has the fins all scratched.
Thanks Man!
Erick

I would try feeding your nori daily (ideally a couple times a day- attaching to a magfloat with a rubberband works well). Just use smaller amounts so you don't pollute your water. PE mysis is an excellent option- but if you can't find any then just get some fresh seafood- shrimp, scallop, fish, clam etc. and dice it up to an appropriate size for your fishes. Oh yeah and adding in a vitamin to their diet would be wise. (i'm not a guarlic guard fan- if you want to provide use garlic then just try a fresh clove. I score (slice without cutting all the way through) a clove with a knife and then just throw it into the food as it is thawing/enriching.

Try Brine shrimp soked in vitamins and garlic. I looks like malnutrition to me but it could be a fight with the yellow, I heard yellows don't like blues because of the yellow on them. he also could have ate somthing funky in your tank.

cheers

let us know if it gets worse

Thanks for all answers!
It seems it's getting better!! I just feed with nori he ate a LOT of it!
I'll do a mix with fresh seafood then!
And i was looking with low light and they're fighting a lot right now. I'll also look for vitamin to add! I'll keep everyone updated!
Thanks

Brine is nutritionally very weak. It works well to get fish eating, but that is about it. Go with the spirulina enriched brine if you do. I would discourage using it regularly. Tangs require more substantial diets. Nori is key.

Erick, Its great to see that you have a good range of greens that you have been feeding- keep that up. The majority of your tangs' diet should be marine algae. Try to find unroasted/ untoasted nori because it holds together much better in the water column.

Marine "Fiend" - :spin1:

As mentioned, brine isn't a great feed and garlic does nothing.

Yeap, I'm trying to find in a LFS the vitamin, or some meaty option. He still doing well and now i'm starting to think that the fight should had been the problem. The black part of stamp is clearer and i can see a horizontal scratch. But anyway the feedind procedure will be changed, using every advice i got it!
Thanks

i had this same type of thing on my PBT when i had to trap him to take him back to the LFS due to some aggression. It's nothing to worry about from what i saw, this spot on mine was brought on due to stress from being trapped. with that in mind if yours is fighting with another fish thats probably what caused it. keep feeding him and he should be just fine. also, yellow's will not attack PBT because of the yellow on them, i had my PBT and a yellow tang together for voer 2 years with no aggression issues of course this is also one of the case by case basis thing.s just because it worked for one person doesnt mean it will work for another

After looking around here, i finally found Kent Marine Zoe vitamin. It was the only one avaible in stores around here.
Well one side of the dark part is turning blue again, but the other side still strange!
I mad a home frozen food with: 1 cup of garlic, 1 cup of Kent Marine Zoe, Tetra Color, Tetra Spirulina, Sera Pellets, Shrimp, Artemia and Nori. He ate this frozen food super well and in also adding just Nori in a clip everyday! Let's see how long it takes to recover from this!
Thanks all
