Help with sumps and refuges

Hello. I am interested in setting up a tank for a trigger fish. Can anyone show me pictures of their sumps for these types of tanks? Do I need a refuge or will just a plain sump work. I was lurking around and saw a link to a melev person. Nice site but too much information! I am considering a 90-125g tank. I was thinking of a 30g or so sump. I am handy and can make this myself or use an old tank. I just need ideas with pictures or flow diagrams. I will be using a reef ready tank only. Not sure about a returning pump yet. Ideas on that would be good. Also about a skimmer. I was looking at an aqua Urchin pro or an ASM model.
Thank you

Thanks for the reply salty.

I did go to melevs site but there seems to be so many options. I am just looking for a simple design that can hold a skimmer and have a return pump.
Anyone else?

Here's a pic of my 70 tank I set up for a Picasso.

And here's the "sump"

That's an ASM G-2 skimmer. I own a Remora and an ASM and for a large tank I'd go with the ASM.

The "sump" I used is actually a Marineland Tidepool II filter.

The black tubing used to plumb all this is called spa flex. It doesn't kink in the corners and is better than hard pvc to reduce vibration noise. Plus it's easier to use.

A fuge is always a good thing.

If you go here and search (the photo gallery) you might find some ideas. The search box is on the right.

Thanks for the picture. Looks like I could really just use a rubbermaid container as long as I add a baffle between the input and the outlet

It is tough to place a baffle in rubbermaid because of the bowing. Instead I have seen people use a smaller rubber made inside the larger which creates a sort of baffle. If you do a search for rubbermaid sump you will find many pictures/designs.
Good luck.

OK. So I found an acrylic aquarium 36" x 12" x 17". I was planning on adding some baffles to this.

First one would be about 8 inches from the left end. This would separate the input section from the main section.

Second baffle would be 8 inches from the right end. This would be a short baffle. Then another 2 inches from that one which would let water move UNDER it. This would hopefully trap bubbles.

I plan on using a filter sock on the end of the input/overflow tubing to also help reduce bubbles.

Should I use foam blocks between the last to baffles?

My return pump will be external (Poseidon S4) and with my plumbing I calculate 900gph...which is what the 1.25" overflow should give me.

Anyone see problems with this design?
