Hi everybody, I m relatively very new to SPS.
I 've been keeping two kind of Montis, a frag of a Tyree L. E. Bali tricolor
for about 4 months with no problem. Recently I bought a Green Slimmer Colony (about a month ago) and I have noticed that the tips are turning white,
this it's been happening slowly , I still can see the green polyps coming out of it,so I don't know if is dying(bleaching out) or is just growing.
As you can tell I don't have experience on SPS, so, please help me out.
Notice the tips of the slimmer", (As far as I remember they weren't that white
when i bought it.)
Thanks.

It looks to be just growing. I had this happen when I installed my geo calcium reactor and my corals started to "really" grow. White tips are normal.

Ding2 is pointing you in the right direction. If the tips are light / white in color, it's growing.

That's what it looks like in the photo.

Thanks guys!!!
Ok , then when do i need to be worried ?
When you can say the coral it's dying ?
just for me to know.

Thanks again.

If the tips are white and algae is growing on them or any other part of an sps coral then that part is dead, usually ALK burn. If an sps coral gets bleached it turns bright white but polyps still come out, usually the coral is getting too much light/stressed, move coral to lower part of the tank with less light. There is also RTN and STN(I think) that are different problems as well. Also acropora eating flatworms and red bugs. LOL there is a whole lot of things that can happen to an sps coral.

I haven't had a tank up with sps for over a year so I maybe forgetting some others.

Thanks Matthew.

Most SPS corals will have a lighter colored tip when growing. It is when you see white at the base that you need to be worried. Keep up whatever it is you're doing. The results are showing.
