I bought this frag about 3 weeks ago. It was fine up until about 2 days ago. I did turn the lights down a tad. From what I could tell it looked ok up until that point. I am just starting to get into SPS and this is one of only 3 or 4 pieces that I have. It is on the overflow and mounted probably 5" under the water line.

Is it getting too much light? Not enough?

dKH = 8
calcium = 440
nitrates = .2
(mag test kit on order)

I have 2 ACAN 600 LED lights running.

Is this rescuable?

LOL, sorry the white stuff a round it is that Tunze Coral Gum. It's just the tiny frag in the middle. I believe it is a type of montipora. It was brown with blue specs on it.

Maybe this shot is better?

Hopefully you were given that frag as a freebie - it is pretty small. It could be so many things suspect. It looks like stn. Probably lighting shock or water parameters. How old is your tank? When I started sps a few years I a tank that ended up too clean and a bunch of pale corals with some loses. It took a while to get them colored up again but it is best to limp in.

If your starting SPS try Digis, Setosa, or monti caps. Once you get through the learning curve then start acros. Even with a mature tank they can be a challenge especially millies for me.

Actually it was a freebie.

The tank was setup in October 3, 2013. Tons of coraline, I currently dose with Aquavitro, but have kalkwasser on its way as I am going to add it to the ATO.

I have some others that seem to be doing ok so far. The monti pieces I got were kinda small as well. I have not seen much growth on my SPS so far, my LPS grows ok, softies and zoa's are going insane.

LEDs are very bright, mine rune at 55% any higher and they start bleaching my corals! Is it in direct flow? You test for phosphates? When you does the 2 part where do you pour it, alkalinity portion causes crazy ph fluctuations.

I dipped the coral in CoralRX to see if that helps. I turned my LED's down to about 60% white and blue. The coral was in direct flow but I have since moved it a little. I have a phosphate test kit in-route, but weather is slowing it down from arriving and right now I don't dose anything but the AquaVitro stuff. Kalkwasser is also coming via BRS. Hoping it makes it, but some of my other corals are also doing good it appears.

Showing the picture to a my local LFS, he said he thought it was a nudibranch, so that is why I dipped it as well. Hoping it comes back.
