I have just put the 25 lbs of live rock into my 20 long tank. I put 25lbs of live sand in Sunday. When puting in the live rock I noticed that the glass has a coating of gritty feeling stuff.It feels like a little of the sand got mixed into algee and coated the glass. It rubs off easily but puts a " cloud" into the water(very small) Am I ok to put in the Damsel that is acclamating to tempature or am I boned and need to come up with something very quick and $250 that I spent today is lost? There's no problem there with the rock and sand. If there's anything on the glass just rub it off and don't worry at all about it.
I do suggest that you not use the damsel to generate a cycle, though. It may just be my own preference but you can just rely on the live rock that you put into the tank to cycle the tank. If you want, you can just put a dead shrimp of the kind you get at the supermarket frozen-foods dept. to "kick start" the process but that isn't even really necessary as the inevitable "die off" from the live rock will be sufficient to start the cycle going. Also, while there are differences of opinion on this, damsels, no matter how innocent they may look when small, tend to become excessively aggressive once fully acclimated in a fish tank and can cause real problems for other fish acquisitions later on, especially when they are the first fish in the tank.

I have read so much here, REALLY THINK A BOUT THAT DAMSEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So many regred it and have to tear there tank apart to get them out! In Latin Damsel is Devel Fish, a couple of Cheomies are better. IMHO, just read all the threads on how do I get rid of that Devel Fish. GO PACK GO!!!!!!!!Bob
