Hermit crabs eating coral.

Does anyone have any experience with hermits eating coral.i had a small hammer coral in the morning and by lunchtime all I could see was its skeleton.there were two hermits very close to it when I last looked at it.( it has completetly gone ,nothing but skeleton remains.)

My hermits took out two zoa frags. The corals looked healthy beforehand. I moved one across the tank and up high once I saw them going after it, and they made it a point to find and finish eating it. Maybe it was already dying? But it didn't look like that to me.

The crabs haven't touched my other corals, though.
