Hermit Crabs

Anyone in the CARC area have any Blue Leg Hermits that they would like to sell or would be interested in a group buy to split shipping cost?

If you are considering a group buy, NARC had very good results with Florida Pets in the past. They allowed us to place orders together, but deliveries were made separately to individual participants' addresses.

If you decide to do a group buy, I recommend that you contact them (and other places) and ask if they can give you the same type of deal :). I may be interested in a group buy for some snails.

I'm not sure what's going on, but Florida Pets (and their sister site, Snails by Mail) are not selling any live goods right now, at least according to their websites.

Good luck with saltwaterfish. If they are DOA, they will do everything remotely possible to avoid making it good. They sent me a bunch of dead snails one time, then told me I should have let them sit in my tank for a few days because they were just resting. Reminded me of the Monty Python 'dead parrot' sketch. It was one of those times that I wished I could send a smell via phone or email, since they definitely weren't 'resting'.

I've used www.sealifeflorida.com I think twice....

They're out of FL so pretty local. Since we're closer by, there's a set of items off their website that has a snail picture next to it.

I think this is mostly snails, crabs, some zoas, anemones,etc...

These items can be shipped priority instead of express (since we're close and they're not fish, etc...) and I think it only runs about $12-15 shipping. Their prices are pretty decent (blues run $.50 to $.60 when I checked today)... Maybe not the absolute best out there vs. buying in bulk, but sure beats the heck out of paying $3-5 for a hermit at the LFS...

Last time I ordered from them they sent a significant amount of extras - I think they automatically do it in case you have some die off from shipping.... most everything I ordered survived so I had quite a few "freebies"....

Hope this helps, I think I'll be placing an order from them soon myself, definetly looking like my cleanup crew is a bit stingy at the moment!

might check on a group buy as well... I've never inquired about one myself, but if you guys wanted to get one together in the B'ham area, I'd definetly be up for it...

I ended up placing an order from reefs2go.com, same as "piece-of-the-reef" on fleabay.... I think their prices are actually even better when you order on the website as opposed to e-bay....
They give some insane discounts if you buy like 50 or 100 blues at a time...

It all arrived today, complete with extras - and seems to all be doing very well upon acclimation.... I'll let you know how it all fares...

Great selection as well and $25 base price for shipping as opposed to $45 some places...

I went overboard cause it got me the qauntity deals.... - also their snails and hermits are proly a lot smaller than you'd get at a LFS so you kinda gotta figure on more anyways....

Here's a rough estimate - this is split between my 24nano and 33 display with 20 sump/fuge...- as well as figuring for a few dead ones from the trip....

50 blue hermits (they sent 60)
20 red hermits
20 turbos
50 nassarius (I have a DSB that's in bad shape in both my display and my fuge)
25 small ceriths
2 brittle stars
2 emerald crabs
2 peppermint shrimp for aiptasia control (they sent 4, you can actually get 6 for $15 if you want!)
1 SMALL cucumber for DSB control
Plus Ordered 1 what they descrbied as small fighting conch for sand bed control - but it's pretty darn big.... gonna have to keep it in my fuge or give it a way cause it's way bigger than expected!

All this cost $100 plus $34 shipping
They throw in either 500 pods or 20 extra blue hermits for spending $100...

A few of us down here just received an order from piece-of-the-reef this week. Speaking for myself, I am quite pleased. A dozen good sized emerald crabs, two nice-sized lettuce nudis, 20 ceriths (got 23 plus a couple blue legs mixed in) and six red leg hermits for $70 shipped. No DOA's, no fatalities so far. I'll definitely use them again.

Also happy with piece-of-the-reef. Got 100 blue hermits, 100 ceriths (small), 100 nerites and 100 nassarius for a little over $220 shipped. Everything is doing well so far, I'd use them again.
