Hiding Internal Overflow Boxes: Tips/Tricks/Pics?

I was wondering,

How do you guys hide your internal overflow boxes?

Any tips, tricks, experiences, or pictures would be appreciated!

For example, the attached picture is my 135 gallon aquarium from Glasscages.com. The overflows are ~7" from the sides of the tank and ~8" from the front. The severly limits space for aquascaping in front of it. How could I hide these to preserve the effect of a natural reef?

Thanks!

Black background. They'll blend in much better.

Most people also seem to go with a twin tower/island rock arrangement which hides them from view. Especially after corals start to grow in.

With your space constraints, this is harder but still possible with rubble & foam "wall" used to cover the overflows.

black background would help, also could do foam background and cover the whole back. I don't do anything, just let the coraline algea grow on them

I let coralline grow on it, and put a few caps on it -- used epoxy to place them, and then they grew over it.

Thanks for the fast replies!

Also, what do you guys think about no backgrounds? I don't have any pictures at the moment, but I pulled of the blue background and the black overflow covers, as it is just glass behind the covers. I thought this might be cool because the wall behind the tank is white, so it might seem like the sand bed continues on, increasing the depth feel (sort of how Chingchai did his DSPS 1000+ gallon tank). Then, the only thing that would stick out is the PVC standpipe and return inside each box, but I think theses would be hidden pretty well by any rock I had in front of them.

Thanks once again!

Does anyone else have any new pics of creative ways theyve disguised their internal overflow boxes???

Check out marcorocks.com, one of the RC sponsors. Under tips & tricks, I believe, they have an example of a rock overflow box design.

Thanks for the info....Checked out marcorocks...... cool stuff..... but does anyone else have and pics of some ways you've hid your internal overflow boxes?

im totally jealous by the way. your purple monti is huge (i just got a small idaho grape frag) and whats the giant anemone or something (purple) in the gap on the bottom left?

^ Nice rock wall.
I kept mine small, DIYed it with black acrylic and a clear bottom so it did not cast a shadow. Painted black of tank black so it blends in. You can make 2 rock towers in front of the overflows and a short rock mound between them.

Thanks,

This was done using dry rock and foam on eggcrate. It does help with circulation as I have incorporated powerheads feeding drilled PVC within the wall itself.

Not an overflow box rather a power head box but same idea. Instead of hiding it I used it as part of the scape.
