High ammonia and live rock

I'm coming to the end of my cycle but there is one thing that concerns me. At the beginning of my cycle the ammonia was at 8 for about 5 days which I'm sure killed off anything live on my live rock. Now I had about 50 lbs of base and 20 lbs of live rock and I am thinking that now that the tank is cycled that I should get rid of my live rock and buy another 20 lbs of fully cured live rock with as much life in it as possible. Would this be the smart thing to do or is the live rock I have still usable even with going thru the ammonia spike?

WIth a 72g tank, that would be a good idea, but do you have to, no, your hitchikers should be fine......if they made the trip over dry, they can take some amm for a few days ; )

Why would you get rid of the live rock? If you add cured rock it will being life to all the other rock. You will be suprised to see what life will live in high ammonia. I would keep it in, what ever rock left that you need so you can finsh your cycle and move on.
