High Calcium Readings

Anyone hear of calcium levels being between 550 and 620 PPM!!!! I have alot of evaporation in my system and top off with kalkwasser. I use about 5 gallons of kalk every 2-3 days. (about 150 gal total in system). I tested tonight for the first time with a Salifert kit (twice) and it read 620ppm. Then tested with my usual kit a Red Sea and got 550. I have never had higher that 450. I'm thinking that if this is accurate, it must be that the kalk increase to compensate for additional evaporation from the new 30gal frag tank is causing it. I have never heard of calcium levels this high.

ca levels can get high I have seen posts where they are even higher. You can let it come down by itself but it may take a while. i think I would confirm my alk , Ph and magnesium were in order before I did anything. Knowing where you stand with good info is really important. After verifying my other levels mix up some new water and verify that is in the proper range. Do a couple water changes with properly balanced mix and you should be headed in the right direction. best of luck.

Unless it has slowly drifted up over many months, the limewater is unlikely to be the cause of calcium that high.

The salt mix, however, might be. Oceanic has calcium that high.

This article describes what to do (let it drift down while maintaining alkalinity with an alkalinity only supplement like baking soda):

Thanks guys for the feedback. I will do all of that, and Randy, I did just start using Oceanic mix recently. Just finishing up a 6 gallon bucket now. Maybe I can just use Oceanic mix and get rid of the kalkwasser altogether Heh :) Mark
