Hippo in a 210 Peninsula

I'm looking for some thoughts from the Tang Police about putting a Blue Tang in a 210 6' tall. There is no way I'm going to go bigger. I'm aware of my other options, and will likely go with them, but I guess I'd just like to hear some opinions. I'll be doing minimal landscaping. The only other tang in there would be a Yellow Eye Kole. The overflow will be the small one from Glass-Holes.

get the larger overflow. the small one is too small. i installed one on a 75 and i feel it is too small to sufficiently skim the tank. if you havent bought the overflow already get the larger one.

I don't think that would be a problem at all. If only a kole tang is in there, you could probably get away with another tang or two that stays on the smaller side.

when I said the smaller one, I meant profile wise. the turnover will be 2000 gph.

I really wouldn't add a hippo or sailfin tang. IMO, your tank will look tiny with either one in the tank. There have been several tanks that I have seen (180 gallon tanks) that have either one of the two or both in the tank. The fish aren't close to being full grown, but they make the tank look small. A 210 is a 180 that is a few inches taller...

Based on what I have seen of larger fish in 6ft long tanks, I wouldn't keep them in anything but 8ft tanks. It's amazing what the extra 2ft does here. Similarly sized hippos and sailfins (just examples of what I have seen) won't make the tank look as small as they would make a 6ft tank look.

I say go for it. Make sure you have plenty of water flow though.

Does the fact that it's a Peninsula help? I'm mostly worried about growth inhibition due to stress of being in a tank too small. Since it's a Peninsula, the Tang would have two aquascapes to work with.

Being a peninsula doesn't change the footprint of your tank. You can aquascape a tank the same way if it is a penninsula or if it is against the wall. Being a penninsula however makes people focus more so on making the viewable sides aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

I have a 7' penninsula and I doubt the fish care about the location of the overflow but I do think they benefit from the open area on both sides of the rock. I have about 1' of open space on both ends of the tank that I guess the fish could do laps around the rock but they really just hang out where i feed them and beg.

A 210 is about the min I like this fish in. I had mine since it was 1" it is now 7" and does not really look too big.

12" is the max size for a a wild specimen. Maybe he'll get to 9-10" only grown about an inch in the last 2yrs. a 12" hippo would be a bit large a 12" sailfin would be huge b/c they are also very tall plus they max at 15".
